What We have accomplished
In December of 2014, we did Christmas gifts for these kids. The ones that were still in school, we gave them snacks and stuff. The ones with apartments, we gave them numerous food items. They all received gifts, which consisted of coats, clothing, jewelry and bath and body works for the girls, hat, scarves and gloves for all. If there was something specifically asked for, we tried to accommodate them also. Most of the kids just needed clothes.
Every one of those kids looked at me like I had 3 heads when we gave them their gifts. They wanted to know why would we do this for them? It broke my heart. They said thank you so many times. It truly was touching and heart breaking all at the same time.
Every Easter we provide Easter Basket to all of the kids. We didn’t do a “typical” Easter basket. I didn’t know what they would do with an Easter basket the remainder of the year and most of these kids don’t have a lot of storage space. We gave them a very versatile plastic tub the first year, and a round laundry basket the 2nd year.
The ones that live on their own, they received a garbage bag FULL of paper products (toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, etc.). All kids received a tub full of shampoo, conditioner, soap, tooth brushes, toothpaste, deodorant, some Easter candy and some plastic eggs filled with candy to make it look like an Easter basket. They also EACH had a chocolate rabbit in their basket. Every year of my life I always received a chocolate rabbit. So even my children, still to this day, get some type of chocolate rabbit. ;o)
In May of 2015, we hosted a painting event. A wonderful person donated her time to help the kids all paint anything they wanted. She worked with each individually and helped them achieve what it was they were looking to achieve. ANT’s Army provided the supplies, pizza and sodas for the kids. I believe some had talent they never dreamed they had!!!
In June of 2015, and the first Saturday in June every year after, we had, and will continue to have, an ANT’s Army Cookout, to Celebrate Ashley and everything that ANT’s Army has done and accomplished so far. We invited all of the foster kids to come and visit, however, most had to work. It was a GREAT time for friends of ANT’s Army who have supported us throughout the year to come and enjoy more and have fun and relax.
We have t-shirts printed every year, each one slightly different on the back with the year. We did give one to the kids that came to the event. We also sold them to anyone interested. It helps us get the word out when someone looks at the shirt and says “ANT’s Army – what’s that?”
We had a silent auction table where everything was donated. So everything made off of this table was complete profit. Everyone I believe had a great time with this.
It's just something nice for everyone to meet, have fun and relax.
